A single, vertically oriented tusk meticulously deep-carved, pierced, and undercut using Cantonese master carving techniques. It features a dense, multi-tiered narrative depicting the Eighteen Arhats (enlightened disciples of Buddha) holding sacred attributes (such as a khakkhara traveler's staff and sutra boxes) and accompanied by their symbolic mounts, including the Buddhist lion and the caparisoned white elephant. The figures navigate an ascending, stylized landscape populated with dense pine tree canopies, grottoes, cloud scrolls, and craggy cliffs. The structure is mounted onto a custom-fitted, openwork carved dark hardwood stand.
