This ivory carving features a fisherman in long traditional Japanese dress decorated in the scrimshaw style in long flowing floral patterns. In his right hand he is holding a bamboo fishing rod from which the bait, a knife, and some sort of pendant hang. Over his shoulder in his left hand he's carrying a wide brimmeds sunhat. On his waist attached to his belt is a small water jog. He has a long beard and long hair that is tied up with a pencil on the top of his head. The figurine stands on a wide carved varnished wood base shaped like a log.
