This soft watercolour painting features a vast desert scene dominated by two ancient arches. The arches are square and stout, made out of a sandstone bricks and surrounded by the rubble of previously fallen monuments. The monuments sit in the middle of a yellow sand desert dotted with a caravan formed of a camel and a number of men in robes and turbans leading the camel across the landscape. In the background a small slope inclines upwards towards a pastely blue sky. The bottom left of the painting features the signature of the 19th century French artist Marcel Blairat. The painting sits in an ornate gilded wooden frame.
